What is a transponder?
A transponder is the electronic component of the key. Its core function is disarming the immobiliser when used in conjunction with starting the engine of the vehicle.
How does it work?
When the key is used in the ignition, it sends a small electric charge to the transponder chip, which then communicates with the Engine Control Unit/Immobiliser located within the vehicle itself.
Trying to use a transponder key that hasn’t been programmed is not recommended. This is because any such attempt can potentially immobilize your vehicle by shutting down the Engine Control Unit.
